5-hydroxy-2-methylnaphthalene-1,4-dione

Like menadione, plumbagin is a naphthoquinone, and undergoes one electron reduction to semiquinone. Under aerobic conditions the semiquinone radical participates in redox cylcing to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide.
