Forkhead family transcription factor; has a minor role in the expression of G2/M phase genes; negatively regulates transcriptional elongation; positive role in chromatin silencing at HML and HMR; binds to the recombination enhancer near HML, and regulates donor preference during mating-type switching by positioning HML near the MAT locus through FHA-domain mediated interactions with proteins near the DSB; FKH1 has a paralog, FKH2, that arose from the whole genome duplication
